Visit the MV Explorer in Shanghai!
Open Ship — our version of a traditional open house — gives potential students the opportunity to experience the MV Explorer, the 24,000 ton passenger ship equipped as our floating university. As the heart of the Semester at Sea program, the MV Explorer includes classrooms, recreational facilities, study areas, computer labs, and an 8,000 volume core library that supports the global, comparative academic focus of Semester at Sea. We invite you to join us at the next upcoming Open Ship event:
30 March 2011 — Shanghai
The brief program will include:
  • Tour of the MV Explorer
  • Program on the student experience
  • Q&A with Semester at Sea staff and students
Don’t miss the chance to come to the Open Ship event and learn about the value of a truly global education. There really is no better way to get a feel for the unique nature of the Semester at Sea experience.
Please RSVP and use event code FUDAN-OS. Fudan Open Ship is 1:00pm-3:00pm; check-in begins at 1:00pm. Registration closes 21 March 2011.

You will be asked to provide a passport or driver’s license information for security clearance to the port, so please have that available when you register online.  Be sure to bring to the event the online registration confirmation page and the identification document you provided when you registered (your passport or driver's license).  Due to homeland security restrictions, persons not on the security manifest will not be granted entry to the port. Consequently, there will be no walk-up registration at these events.

If you have any questions, please contact outreach@semesteratsea.net. We hope to see you on board the MV Explorer!
The MV Explorer will be located at:
Shanghai Port International Cruise Terminal
No.500 Dong Da Ming Road (Tai Ping Rd), Shanghai
Check-in will be from 1:00pm-1:30pm
Sincerely,
Debbie Clifford

Participants hail from more than 280 U.S. and international universities. Aboard the 24,300-ton campus of the MV Explorer, students attend classes in a closely knit environment with an international faculty, complete fieldwork and travel while in port, and earn course credit through the University of Virginia, the academic sponsor of Semester at Sea.
Over the years, Semester at Sea has achieved a number of significant milestones, including groundbreaking visits to countries such as the former Soviet Union, China, Vietnam, Cuba, and Myanmar, and participants have met with prominent leaders including Fidel Castro, Anwar Sadat, Indira Gandhi, Mikhail Gorbachev, Corazon Aquino, Sidi Mohammed, Mother Teresa, and Nelson Mandela.
