Fudan Proves China’s Indisputable Sovereignty over Diaoyu Islands with a New Anthology

An Anthology of Lewchewan Historical Documents Written in Chinese, a 32-volume work to prove China’s Indisputable Sovereignty over Diaoyu Islands in the perspective of local Lewchewans, was announced to be published by Fudan University Press by the end of this year.

It took Fudan scholars two years to accomplish collection and compilation of the data found in libraries, museums and universities all over the world. With time span of over 1200 years, materials collected--consisting of historical records, maps, poems and essays--are all written by Lewchew government and local upper-class literati. In these documents, it is evident that the Lewchewans regard consistently Diaoyu Islands as the inherent territory of China rather than as part of Lewchew, a China tributary state with local sovereignty during that spell of time.

The on-going sovereignty dispute between China and Japan over Diaoyu Islands raises awareness on academic responsibility in clarification on historical geography. Japan claims for its sovereignty over Diaoyu Islands on the ground of its sovereignty over Lewchew. However, with solid historical documents, Fudan scholars prove indisputably that these islands never belong to Lewchew, and thus rebut Japan’s wrong claim for sovereignty over them.

On Aug 29th, Prof. TANG Zhaoyou, a professor from Fudan University Affiliated Zhongshan Hospital and member of Chinese Academy of Technology, was awarded the title of “Model Teacher 2012”.

Professor TANG has made a number of glorious achievements, among which is the organization of a high-end team in fighting with the liver cancer.

Prof. TANG endeavors to provide enough opportunities of practice as well as adequate possibilities for young researchers. The Research Institute for Liver Cancer set up by him has become an important platform to provide therapy for liver cancer, as well as a research and talent cultivation base in China and in the world. Wang Rui and Li Shaobo from School of Basic Medical Sciences, Fudan University actively participated in the competition and won the prize.

Wang Rui is a master student in Medical Education and LiShaobo is an undergraduate student in Forensic Medicine. Though Fudan University has done a lot of work to achieve UNMDG, the students finally chose “Caring for Children” as the theme of video completion because the activities could be presented more easily through pictures and video clips. The contents of their project include offering physiological and psychological class on hygiene habits and study to students from a small village in Hunan province, imparting knowledge on medical treatment and health to the children in “Teddy Bear Hospital” and working in a relay way as rehabilitation volunteers in “Shanghai BoAi Children Healthy Center”. Boasting of a long history, those kinds of activities are very common on campus and well recorded by student volunteers in various ways including audio-video materials. Li Shaobo collected the materials and did the film clips, and then Wang Rui made the modification.

Fudan’s video was played in UNMDG Meeting, the preparatory meetings of 2012 U21 HS Conference held in Newland. Wang Rui, as the representative of winners from Fudan, reported to the meeting the work related with UNMDG done by the students from School of Basic Medical Science, Fudan University. There are only two winners in this video competition, who are from Fudan University and Hongkong University. This is the first time that Fudan students won the competition and gave presentation on U21 in medical field, and thus projected the competence they have.
