ALUMNI

 

Fudan Alumni Hold A Large Party in New York

 

 

On Sep.30th, the U.S.A alumni association of Fudan University held a large party in the New York. More than 100 Alumni of Fudan University and their Spouses, from New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Pennsylvania took part in the Party. Alumni who graduated from different majors of different departments of Fudan University gathered together. Some of them are mid-aged and are graduates from last century, while some are the new comers to the States who have just graduated from Fudan University.

 

President of the Alumni Association, Mr. Zhou Gusheng, introduced the history and the development of the association. The Chairman of the association Mr. Yang Yong gave a brief introduction of the website of the association and warmly welcomed the attentions of the alumni (http://fudanalumniusa.com).

Fudan University Establishes its Alumni Association in Japan

 

 

 

Holding the opening ceremony at The New Otani Hotel Tokyo, on the afternoon of October 28, Fudan University now established its 79th alumni association in Japan. According to rough statistics, Fudan now has around 10,000 alumni studying, working and living in Japan, including the alumni of former Shanghai Medical University.

 

Around 200 alumni attended the opening ceremony, including 80 Japanese alumni. Professor Qin Shaode, Chancellor of Fudan University, led a delegation to attend the opening ceremony. Officials from the Chinese Embassy in Japan, as well as presidents and representatives from nearly 20 Japanese universities were invited to the ceremony as well. Companies such as Sony, Casio, Sumitomo and Daikin also sent out their representatives to the ceremony.

 

During the opening ceremony, the participating alumni selected the first management team of the Alumni Association in Japan. Professor Zhou Weijia, Chairman of the Alumni Association, said he would try his best to contribute to both the association and his home university.

CONFERENCE

 

Vice President Jin Li Participates Sino-German University Presidents’ Meeting

 

 

One year after the 2006 Sino-German University Presidents’ Meeting in Beijing, 2007 Sino-German Presidents’ Meeting was held in Humboldt University Berlin from October 4th to October 6th. Presidents, Vice Presidents from Peking University, Tsinghua University, Fudan University, Zhejiang University, Nanjing University, Shanghai Jiaotong University and Xi’an Jiaotong University, Tongji University, University of Science and Technology of China, Humbolt University, Berlin Freedom University, Munich University, Munich University of Science of Technology etc. and representatives from Natural Sciences Foundation of China and German Research Foundation (DFG) participated in the meeting.

 

Vice President of Fudan University Professor Jin Li attended the meeting and hosted the discussion session on the doctoral student training in China and in Germany, and introduced the research in life sciences of Fudan.

 

The theme of this meeting is to compare the research and funding of Chinese and German universities. Recently, German government is carrying on an Excellence Initiative Project. German universities will be evaluated and categorized into Graduate School, Cluster of Excellence, and University of Excellence for more funding. The project is comparable to the 985 and 211 project in China. Under such conditions, the Sino-German University Presidents’ Forum has provided a forum to identify more opportunity of cooperation.

 

Fudan University is a partner with Constanz University and Freie Universit?t Berlin. Fudan established Confucius Institute in Frankfurt University and operated a joint MBA with Hamburg University. Collaboration with German universities is important part of the internationalization of Fudan.

Eurasia-Pacific Uninet Plenary Meeting Convened at Fudan

 

 

 

From October 10 to 12, The Second Eurasia-Pacific Uninet Plenary Meeting was held at Fudan University. Eurasia-Pacific Uninet is an inter-university network, aiming to promote the academic cooperation between universities in Austria, China, Central and Eastern Asia. The Uninet is funded by Austrian Ministry of Science and Research. Fudan University as one of its members also hosts Austrian Centre, which was funded by the Uninet. Representatives from over one hundred member universities participated in the Plenary Meeting at Fudan, discussing future cooperation and strengthening the ties between universities of the regions. In the commencement ceremony of the meeting, member universities introduced themselves and were then divided into working groups of natural sciences, social sciences, medical sciences, music and arts. Former Austrian Minister of Education Mrs. Gehrer, Austrian Ambassador to China, and President Wang Shenghong participated in the meeting.

 

Another important topic of the meeting was the discussion on the charter of the Uninet, identifying the nature of the network and the obligations of the members. The meeting also gave detailed introduction to the application of the Uninet scholarship.

 

To better promote the Austrian culture, Uninet sponsored an Austrian string concert at the night of October 11d. Musicians from Vienna, Salzburg, Graz presented beautiful music of classic style.

3rd Fudan-Lund Joint Seminar on Biomedicine

 

 

On October 19, 2007, the 3rd Fudan-Lund Joint Seminar on Biomedicine was held at the Fenglin Campus of Fudan University. Professors and experts including Dr. Wen Jie from Huashan Hospital, Dr. Peng Junjie from Cancer Hospital, Dr. Liu Tianshu from Zhongshan Hospital, Prof. Zhu Yichun from Shanghai Medical College and Swedish professors from Lund University including Prof. Ingemar Carlstedt, Prof. Anita Sjolander, Prof. Karl Sward and Prof. Ola Hansson etc. presented on the seminar. Dr. Zhu Chouwen, Deputy Director of the Foreign Affairs Office of Fudan and Dr. Zou Hejian, Deputy Dean of Shanghai Medical College attended the Seminar.

 

The two universities also held talks on the further development of the cooperative relations between Fudan and Lund, especially in the fields of student and faculty exchange and research collaborations.

Research and Application of New Drug Delivery System Forum Held

 

As one of the academic activities for the celebration of 100th Anniversary of Chinese Pharmaceutical Association, the 3rd International Pharmaceutical Preparations Forum, held by the association, co-held by the school of pharmacy of Fudan University, took place on Oct.19 on Chongming Island, Shanghai.

 

The theme for the forum this time is “Research and Application of New Drug Delivery System”. During the three-day forum, the participants had a heated discussion on Brain targeted drug delivery strategies, oral mucosal drug delivery systems, protein drug delivery system. More than 400 experts and scholars participated while over 20 world famous pharmacists from China, U.S.A, Japan, and Korea delivered presentations on the frontier researches and the latest achievements of Pharmacy development.

 

Fudan University Vice President Gui Yonghao, Academician of The Chinese Academy of Engineering and Director of national pharmaceutical engineering research center Prof. Hou Huimin, Vice chairman of Chinese Pharmaceutical Association Li Shaoli, Director of Pharmacy committee of Chinese Pharmaceutical Association and Vice Director of Chongming Province Chu Yilin, and Dean of School of Pharmacy Prof. Zhu Yizun attended the opening ceremony.

Biomedical Institute hosts the “Sino-French cooperation seminar”

 

On the morning of Oct.29, “Sino-French Cooperation Seminar – New methods and technology of Proteomics” was held on Fudan medical campus.

 

During the discussion, the experts exchanged ideas on the tendency of the new methods and technologies of the Proteomics, reporting the new developments of the experiments in the labs and hoping to discover new cooperative projects. The experts also expressed the ideas on the cooperation of the projects supported by the national funds of two counties as well as the possibility of the joint program for young staff and graduate students. After the discussion, the French experts were shown around the labs of school.

 

The seminar was hosted by Prof. Yang Fanyuan, Executive Vice President of Biomedical Research Institute. Prof. Jean-Marie Schmitter and Prof. Stephane Chaignepain from European Biology and Chemistry Research Institute, Prof. Jean Rosenbaum from French National Health and Medicine Research Institute, Prof. Liu Yinkun, from Cancer Research Center of Biomedical Institute, Prof. Zhang Xiangmin, from School of Chemistry and some young researchers participated in the Seminar.

 

The Sino-French Senior cooperative project is highly supported by the technology departments of both countries, mainly focusing on the cooperation of labs and the promising researches.

Three Confucius Institutes Launched in Europe

 

Three Confucius Institutes were launched in Europe in September, as results of cooperation between Fudan University and the hosting European universities.

 

On September 17, the launching ceremony for the Confucius Institute in Frankfurt was held at Frankfurt University. More than 200 distinguished guests including Prof. Rudolph Steinberg, President of Frankfurt University, Mr. Udo Corts, Hessen Minister of Higher Education, Mr. Ma Canrong, Chinese Ambassador to Germany, Ms. Petra Roth, Mayor of Frankfurt and Prof. Cai Dafeng, Executive Vice President of Fudan, attended the ceremony and delivered speeches. President Steinberg of Frankfurt University and Executive Vice President Cai of Fudan University unveiled the name plate for Confucius Institute together.

 

On September 20, University of Hamburg held the opening ceremony for the new Confucius Institute in Hamburg in cooperation with its partner Fudan University in China. The Vice President of University of Hamburg Prof. Dr.H. Siegfried Stiehl, along with other distinguished guests, attended the ceremony.

 

On September 24, the Confucius Institute in Edinburgh was launched at the university library of the University of Edinburgh. First Minister of Scotland Alex Salmond, the Principal of the University of the University of Edinburgh, Professor Timothy O’Shea and the Executive Vice President of Fudan Prof Dr. Cai Dafeng attended the ceremony.

WUSL – Fudan EMBA Listed Among Global Top 10 for the Second Year

 

 

 

On October 22, The Financial Times of London released the 2007 edition of its annual rankings of International Executive MBA programs. The Washington University in St. Louis – Fudan University EMBA Program ranked 7th in the world (up from 8th in 2006) and 1st in Mainland China for the second year in a row.

 

Started in 2002, the Washington University in St. Louis – Fudan University Executive MBA Program is a joint educational venture between the Olin Business School and the School of Management at Fudan University in Shanghai. Professor Lu Xiongwen, Dean of the School of Management of Fudan, and Professor Mahendra Gupata, Dean of Olin’s, agreed that this achievement is the result of the joint efforts of the two schools.

Keio University Sets the Branch Office of Its East Asian Institute at Fudan University

 

On October 31, Keio University held the opening ceremony for the branch office of its East Asian Institute at Center for Japanese Studies, Fudan University. Professor Sakamoto, Vice President of Keio University and Professor Wang Weiping, Executive Vice President of Fudan University attended the ceremony.

 

Keio University is the oldest private university in Japan and has built up the bilateral exchange and cooperation relationship with Fudan University since 1983. The two universities have held various student and faculty exchange programs between each other and this cooperation has been greatly contributed to the internationalization of Fudan University.

 

Keio Institute of East Asian Studies is a most important research and academic institute of Chinese and East Asian Studies in Japan, having nurtured quite a lot of famous scholars and politicians. Keio University now opened its branch office in Fudan as the first school- level institute office set abroad. This will surely pushed the bilateral exchange and cooperation relationship between the two universities to a newly high level.

Fudan Certified Chinese Famous Trademark

 

 

Recently Fudan University was certified “Chinese Famous Trademark in Education” by State Administration for Industry and Commerce. This is another milestone on legal protection for Fudan’s brand after it was certified “Shanghai Famous Trademark” last year.

 

Initially known as "Fudan Public School", Fudan University was founded in 1905. "Fudan", literally meaning "brilliant is the sunshine and the moonlight, against the morning glory after a night", indicates inexhaustible self-reliance and industriousness. Now the brand of “Fudan” has become intangible assets to Fudan University.

 

Fudan University is the first university to register its name as a trademark in Shanghai. As early as in 1999, Fudan University registered "Fudan" trademark to the Shanghai Municipal Administration of Industry to seek better protection from unauthorized use of its name by private businesses. It is remarked that Fudan famous trademark application is not for commercial exploitation of its own business, but to better protect the University’s public image.

Technology for City Stench Disposal Approved

 

The result of the topic research project chaired by Prof. Hou Huiqi from Fudan Department of Environmental Science and Engineering, namely "Microwave Plasma Technology for UV Radiation Stench Disposal", was appraised and approved recently by government authority concerned.

 

Renowned experts including Jiang Yanyin, Ji Xueli and Gu Yuxiang spoke highly of the research project, agreeing that the results of the project would have very good prospects for the promotion and application, thus proposed to the Municipal Science and Technology Commission to continue supporting it.

 

It was learned that the subject had applied for invention patents in two countries and published four papers. Director of Municipal Science and Technology Commission Mr. Ma Xingfa and Deputy Director Sun Liyuan also attended the meeting.

Special Olympics Handball Competition Concluded at Chia Tai Stadium of Fudan

 

 

On October 18, with the prize awarding ceremony, the handball competition of Special Olympics 2007 drew to an end at the Chia Tai Stadium of Fudan University.

 

Chia Tai Stadium is one of the two venues for the handball competition of Special Olympics this year, hosting major handball events including the opening and the prize presenting ceremonies. From October 4 to 10, altogether 15 teams from 12 countries including Kenya, Algeria, the Netherlands, Yemen, China, Uruguay, Azerbaijan, Austria, Germany, India and Greece joined the competition, demonstrating the spirit of “I know I can” – the slogan of this year’s Special Olympics. In the end, the Chinese Men’s Team 1 & 2 and women’s Team 2 won the three championships out of four in total.

 

Mr. Chen Anjie, Secretary of CCP in Yangpu District, and Prof. Cai Dafeng, Executive Vice President of Fudan University, presented the medals to the winning athletes.

Fudan and EMC Jointly Establishes Innovative Network Joint Laboratory

 

 

On Oct. 31st, the Signing Ceremony of EMC China R & D Center entering KIC Plaza i.e. the Signing Ceremony of Fudan and KIC Jointly Establishing Innovative Network Joint Laboratory was held in KIC Plaza. Prof. Wang Shenghong, President of Fudan University, Mr. Chen Anjie, Secretary of CPC Yangpu District Committee and Mr. Jeffrey M. Nick, Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer of EMC Corporation, attended the ceremony and delivered speeches as well.

 

On behalf of Fudan University, Prof. Chen Yinzhang, Assistant President and Director of Foreign Affairs Office, signed the Cooperation Memorandum of Innovative Network Joint Laboratory with Mr. Jeffrey M. Nick.

 

President Wang Shenghong remarked in his speech later that this cooperation would greatly benefit the upgrading of the research level of information technology application, and the strengthening of communication on scientific research and talent exchange between both parties. Fudan University will take advantage of its integrated capacity to integrate different resources to enhance joint interaction between computer science and the industrial circle.

 

At the same day, KIC also signed Tenants Lease Agreement with EMC. The two simultaneous signing ceremonies manifest the prospect of constructing a knowledge-oriented Yangpu District and demonstrate the realization of close cooperation and talent exchange among the district, the university and the corporation. The new initiative is also expected to further facilitate the implementation of interaction among universities, technology parks and public communities as well.

Fudan Confers Honorary Professorship on Prof. Authur Kleinman

 



 

On October 20, Fudan University President Prof. Wang Shenghong conferred Honorary Professorship on Prof. Authur Kleinman from Harvard University, a world-leading professor in medical anthropology.

 

Prof. Arthur Kleinman is a prominent American psychiatrist and professor of medical anthropology and cross-cultural psychiatry at Harvard University, USA. He is best known for his work on mental illness in Chinese culture. Kleinman has written on the intersection of public health and international issues as well as social suffering, on cross-cultural psychiatry, and on the individual experience of pain and disability. Kleinman has done much to demonstrate that mental distress is much more likely to be expressed as somatized distress (i.e. as a bodily ailment) than as psychological distress by Chinese or East Asian patients. He has also contributed to anthropological and medical understanding of culture-bound syndromes, particularly in Chinese and East Asian culture.

 

Also on that day the Fudan-Harvard Research Centre of Medical Anthropology was established at Fudan University, as the first research platform for medical anthropology in China, with Prof. Arthur Kleinman as its Honorary Director and Dr. Pan Tianshu, graduate of Department of anthropology Harvard University and Associate Professor at Fudan School of Social Development and Public Policy as the Director.

Visit by the President of the Republic of Iceland H.E. Mr. Olafur Ragnar Grimsson

 



 

On October 4 2007, the President of the Republic of Iceland H.E. Mr. Olafur Ragnar Grimsson visited Fudan University with the company of Mr. Gunnar Snorri Gunnarsson, the Ambassador of Iceland to China, Mr. Zhang Keyuan, the Ambassador of China to Iceland, and some others.

 

The President and his delegation visited the Nordic Centre at Fudan University first and learned about its history, activities and future plans. The visit was followed by a warm welcome from the President of Fudan University Prof. Wang Shenghong. President Grimsson and Prof. Wang then had a good talk on developing and strengthening the academic and scientific exchanges and cooperation between Fudan and Icelandic universities. President Grimsson also spoke highly of Fudan’s active involvement and great contributions to the 2007 Shanghai Summer Special Olympics.

 

After the meeting, President Grimsson delivered an inspiring speech on “The Future of Clean Energy — Iceland-China: A Model for New Global Cooperation” to Fudan students. During his speech, President Grimsson introduced to the audience the history of geothermal energy exploration and utilization in Iceland, stressing the importance and feasibility of exploring geothermal energy in China. He also mentioned that it is very important to start research cooperation in this field between Chinese and Icelandic universities and encouraged students to take an active role in these research cooperation.

 

President Grimsson was on a state visit to China at the invitation of China’s President Hu Jintao. He also attended the opening ceremony of the 2007 Shanghai Summer Special Olympics on October 2.

Special Olympics President Visited Student Volunteers at Fudan

 



 

On the evening of October 8, Special Olympics President Tim Shriver visited the broadcasting lab at Fudan School of Journalism to send his greetings to the young volunteers who worked for the website of Special Olympics from Fudan and North Carolina University.

 

After the introduction of the construction of the website, Mr. Shriver highly valued on the excellent work of the student volunteers, "the website fully demonstrate the style of more than 7,000 Special Olympics athletes, serving as a platform for the people of the world to approach every Special Olympics athlete." When he was informed that Fudan hosted the handball game of Special Olympics and more than 1,000 volunteers participated in the Special Olympics, Mr. Shriver was very pleased and wrote the inscription for Fudan: "Thank you for your innovative efforts and outstanding contributions. "

 

According to reports, the website (http://www.specialolympicslive.org/) for Shanghai Special Olympics 2007 was launched by the International Special Olympics in cooperation with the University of North Carolina and Fudan University. During Special Olympics 2007, nearly 300 students from China and the United States worked together to record the game scenes of every athlete, edited and uploaded the collection of the game scenes to the website. It was the first time in the history to promote the Special Olympics via video report website.

Speech by Norwegian Writer Mr. Jostein Gaarder

 



 

On Oct. 16 2007, Mr. Jostein Gaarder, the famous Norwegian writer and author of the international bestseller Sophie’s World, visited Fudan University and delivered an impassionate speech on Literature and Philosophy. The lecture attracted over 400 students, many of whom have read several of his works.

 

During his speech, Mr. Jostein Gaarder gave a brief introduction of himself and his life experiences. He recounted his own experience as an 11-year-old boy who was suddenly amazed by the existence of his own being, and asked around for an answer. From then on he felt involved in an eternal mystery about human being, which he still feels himself as a part of till this day.

 

Talking about his popular book Sophie’s World, the author said that he didn’t expect the book would end up with so many readers as his initially target readership was simply scholars of philosophy but not the general public. He also remarked that he would have included the Eastern ideas like Confucianism, Taoism and Indian philosophy if he should write it now.

 

Mr. Jostein Gaarder also introduced his latest novel Maya, which is another adventure into the big ideas and meaning of life and love.

 

After his speech, Mr. Jostein Gaarder signed for the students on his books.

Visit by The Delegation from School of Medicine, Stanford University

 

On Oct. 18th, Vice President Gui Yonghao of Fudan University received Mr. Philip A. Pizzo, Director of School of Medicine from Stanford University, along with his delegation in Fenglin medical campus. Dr. Zhu Chouwen, Deputy Director of Foreign Affairs Office of Fudan and Mr. Tang Qiqun, Vice Dean of Medical College, also attended the meeting.

 

Mr. Philip A. Pizzo had sincere and friendly talks with scholars related from Fudan Shanghai Medical College in aspects of teaching, scientific research and semester period etc. He also visited some laboratories afterwords.

Visit by Mahidol University to Fudan School of Pharmacy

 

 

Heading a delegation of 17, Professor Ampol Mitrevej, Dean of Pharmacy School, Mahidol University, Thailand, visited Fudan University on October 18. Professor Zhu Yizun, Dean of Fudan School of Pharmacy and Professor Ye Deyong, Vice Dean of the School received the Thai Delegation. School of Pharmacy at Mahidol University is a top pharmacy school in Thailand and is best with natural pharmacy research.

 

After an introduction of Fudan School of Pharmacy and its moving to Zhang Jiang Campus, Professor Mitrevej also introduced the School of Pharmacy at Mahidol University. The delegation also visited Fudan Feng Lin Campus, and the Laboratory of Pharmacy School.

Tennessee Education Delegation VisitS Fudan

 

 

On the morning of Oct. 22nd, Tennessee education delegation, USA, visited Center for American Studies of Fudan University. They also courteously had a meeting with President Wang Shenghong. President Wang Shenghong, together with Prof. Shen Dingli, Director of Center for American Studies cordially met with the delegation.

 

The members of the Tennessee education delegation included Dr. Melvin Johnson, President of Tennessee State University, Dr. John Petersen, President of the University of Tennessee and Dr. Shirley Raines, President of the University of Memphis. This was the first time that the education delegation visited Fudan University, and this visit left a deep impression on the delegation.

President of University College Dublin Visits School of Software


 

On the afternoon of October 24, a delegation led by Professor Hugh Brady, President of University College Dublin (UCD), visited School of Software and was warmly welcomed by Dean Zang Bingyu, faculty and students.

 

After a brief tour of the Zhangjang campus, Hugh Brady spent some time with the students of a Fudan-UCD Joint Degree Class 2005. Then Hugh Brady visited the new Research Display Center where the research results of recent years are displayed.

 

School of Software attaches great importance on the international cooperation. By the agreement signed with UCD in December of 2002, School of Software and UCD started the joint program of software engineering. Every year, 50 first year students enter the program, trained by the curriculum jointed designed by two parties and graduate with degrees from both sides. Up till now, the graduates from this program total 270 in six years, many of whom have been to Ireland for a short period of time. Prof. Brady came at a time when School of Software celebrated her five year anniversary, which is another important event after the Irish Week last year at Fudan.

Visity by Holland Consul General Eric Verwaal

 

On the morning of October 25, Vice President Dr. Xu Zheng met with Holland Consul General Eric Verwaal.

 

Mr. Verwaal came to Fudan with Groningen University professors to discuss matters on Dutch Studies Center. Groningen University is an important partner of Fudan, said Dr. Xu Zheng. Fudan University will give full support to Dutch Studies Center in the hopes that the Center will develop gradually and set up courses to become a platform of teaching, research and cultural exchange of Dutch Studies.

 

Mr. Verwaal, once a language student at Fudan, happily accepted the invitation of speech in Fudan Ambassador’s Forum.

The Swedish Universities Road Show @ Fudan

 

On October 25 2007, the Swedish Universities Road Show organized by the Swedish Consulate General in Shanghai and Swedish Institute was held at Guanghua Towers of Fudan University.

 

Fourteen Swedish universities participated in the Show, including Stockholm University, Lund University, Gothenburg University, and Chalmers University of Technology. The Show attracted hundreds of Fudan students. Representatives from those universities answered questions from students and provided information on their graduate programs, as well as how to apply for these programs.

 

Prior to the road show, the delegation was warmly welcomed by Prof. Wang Shenghong, President of Fudan University, and was given presentations about Fudan, Nordic Centre at Fudan, as well as Fudan Department of Environment Science and Engineering, School of International Relations and Public Affairs, and School of Life Sciences.

 

These fourteen Swedish universities also took part in the 2007 Shanghai Education Exhibition during the following weekend.

Visit by Rector of University of Antwerp


 

On the morning of October 26, Prof. Francis Van Loon, Rector of University of Antwerp, Belgium, paid a courtesy visit to Fudan University and was warmly received by President Wang Shenghong, who delivered a welcoming speech and introduced Fudan’s distinctive exchange programs with overseas universities.

 

University of Antwerp has kept a good relationship with Fudan for long. Chancellor Qin Shaode signed an agreement on a new round cooperation with Princess Mathilde of Belgium, who visited Fudan three years ago. It is learned that School of Economics at Fudan will launch a joint program on EMBA in Banking with Antwerp next year.

Visit and Speech by Director of ENS

 

On the afternoon of October 30, Dr. Monique Canro-Sperber, Director of Ecole Normale Supérieure (ENS) visited Fudan University and gave a speech in English titled The Normative Foundations of Cosmopolitanism to 80 odd faculty and students from School of Philosophy.

 

On the morning of that day, Fudan President Wang Shenghong warmly received Director Monique Canro-Sperber in downtown. Both parties agreed to sign a MOU on future cooperation. At present were Consul Cécile Cormier from French Consulate General in Shanghai, Prof. Claude Imbert from ENS, Prof. Mo Weimin and Prof. Shen Xiaoxiao from Fudan.

 

Born in 1954, Dr. Monique Canro-Sperber graduated from ENS in 1974 and assumed the position of Director in 2005. With a splendid history of 213 years since 1794, ENS is a model in international education and has cultivated 12 Nobel Prize laureates and 8 Fields Prize Winner in all up till now.

President of Cornell University Visits Fudan

 

On the morning of Oct. 29th, Prof. David Skorton, President of Cornell University, along with the delegation, visited Fudan University for the first time. President Wang Shenghong cordially met with President Skorton and the delegation. The two parties discussed the possibility of future cooperation in the field of teaching and scientific research in a pleasant atmosphere.

 

Before the meeting, professors from Fudan Shanghai Medical College, School of Life Sciences, Law School and School of International Relations and Public Affairs introduced the current situations of teaching and scientific research respectively in detail to the guests. They also looked forward to cooperating with Cornell University in the future.

Visit by The Delegation of University of Tecnologico de Monterrey, Mexico

 

On the afternoon of October 31, a delegation led by Prof. Arturo Molina, Vice President of Research and Development of University of Tecnologico de Monterrey, Mexico, visited Fudan University.

 

Prof. Chen Xiaoman, Vice President of Fudan University, received the delegation and highlighted the cooperative projects between the two universities. Information on university development and scientific researches was exchanged by the parties.

 

The delegation also paid a visit to the Microelectronics – Nanotechnology Lab and Fudan Science Park.
