U21 3MT Competition winners
  • Over 800 entrants from 17 U21 members

Photo Competition winners announced
  • Over 85 entrants in the U21 photo competition

  • Winner is Tomi Adedeji from the University of Nottingham

  • Md Mahbubul Alam (Queensland) and Li Jiaying (Fudan) awarded second place prizes.

Educational Innovation
2014 U21 Educational Innovation Conference and Workshops
  • UNSW Australia hosted 2014 U21 EI Conference, on Personalised Learning

  • 43 delegates from 17 U21 institutions attended

  • Explored value and impact of tailored learning experiences and challenges of online learning

  • 2015 EI Conference to be hosted by the University of Edinburgh, 28-30 October

U21 Shared Online Course (SOC) goes live!
  • U21’s initial pilot of its SOC, Critical Thinking in Global Challenges live online from 3 November

  • Within the first 48 hours, 805 students enrolled from nine U21 institutions

Researcher Engagement
ECR Workshop in Ningbo
  • University of Nottingham Ningbo China hosted a one-day workshop in early November on The future of international higher education

  • Over 60 people attended, primarily from the Asia-Pacific and Australia/New Zealand regions

  • University of Hong Kong’s Professor Rui Yang delivered the keynote speech

  • Collaboration opportunity for those with responsibility for research strategy or for graduate education and research

Student Experience
2015 U21 Summer School details announced
  • Glasgow host for Summer School 2015 on Cities and Citizen Engagement in the Digital Age

  • Taking place from 1 to 15 July 2015

  • Will explore the use of technology in civic regeneration, including citizen engagement, population health, education, resilience and urban big data

Student Leaders' Network meeting 2015
  • Next Student Leaders’ Network meeting will take place at the National University of Singapore

  • University of Edinburgh offering 10% off all courses in its summer programme

Next U21 Student Mobility Network meeting
  • The University of Connecticut to host annual Student Mobility Network meeting in 2015

  • Will take place on 21 and 22 May 2015

  • This will allow plenty of time for members to return to Boston for the NAFSA Conference

  • All involved with student mobility in relation to Universitas 21 are welcome to attend

People & Places
New President at Fudan University
  • Professor Xu Ningsheng appointed new President of Fudan University on 24 October

  • Takes over from Professor Yang Yuliang, who was Deputy Chair of the U21 network and member of the U21 Executive Committee

  • We thank Professor Yang for his commitment to U21 and welcome Professor Xu to the network

International Staff Week 2015 at Lund
  • The universities of Lund and Amsterdam are organising an International Staff Week on International student support

  • Takes place 13 to 17 April 2015

  • Fee will be waived for up to two members from each U21 university

  • More details will be announced in the coming weeks and registration will open in December

Professor Hai-Sui Yu awarded honorary citizenship of Ningbo
  • Professor Hai-Sui Yu, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (International) at the University of Nottingham, awarded honorary citizenship of Ningbo

  • Recognition of his outstanding contribution towards the development of Ningbo over the past decade
